1. Ground Control to Major Tom
The final field trip for the visual art students in the Recanati-Kaplan Program for Excellence in the Arts was a visit to the current exhibitions at the Park Avenue Armory: Tom Sachs: SPACE PROGRAM: MARS. In the photo above, Recanati-Kaplan scholars Sivan Adler, Talia Spielholz, Lily Bua, Elska Kaczmarek, Christian Salvatierra were put to work by Tom Sachs (at right in glasses and tie), sorting screws for the continuing mission.
All of the purpose built equipment and installations “do not look as if they could ever make it to Mars,” observed 11-year-old Nicholas Wendell, Recanati-Kaplan Scholar. 
SPACE PROGRAM: MARS runs until June 17.  
Recanati-Kaplan Scholar Mentor Angela Earley congratulates all of the “brilliant thinkers, astonishing artists, wonderful people” of the Recanati-Kaplan program. “It was a great pleasure working with you,” she said.
The Recanati-Kaplan Program for Excellence in the Arts provides full, year-long scholarships based on artistic merit for children and teens to study with the renowned faculty of the 92nd Street Y School of the Arts. Learn more.
