Today — National Dance Day — the U.S. Postal Service will pay tribute to four influential choreographers who changed the art of dance: Isadora Duncan, Jose Limon, Katherine Dunham, and Bob Fosse, with new Forever Stamps.
We’re grateful to have welcomed some of these tremendous talents at 92Y’s Harkness Dance Center.
- Katherine Dunham had her New York debut here in 1937.
- The first New York performance of Jose Limon’s “The Moor’s Pavane” happened here in 1947.
- And Isadora Duncan was the focus of Walter Terry’s dance laboratories with lecture-demonstrations in 1949-50 and her influence is seen here today in many ways.
