GET TO KNOW TEAM RATLIFF: Press Secretary LANGAN KINGSLEY
Episode Three of our continuing series of “webisodes” about the people who work behind the scenes on the RATLIFF 35/2012 campaign focuses on press secretary Langan Kingsley.
Those of you who have seen my highly successful Battery Park Press Event from earlier this year know that Langan is a real pro, able to handle everything from a hostile press corps to a very loud boat with poise and aplomb.
On October 15, you can see Langan in the film OLD ENOUGH TO BE PRESIDENT: Connor Ratliff’s 35-Year Journey To The White House at 92YTribeca, and there will be a Q&A after the film where I will be answering questions along with most of my campaign staff.
Think of it like this: imagine they were only going to show THE AVENGERS once, and at the end of the screening, you were able to see the actual Avengers sit on stage and answer questions about what it was like to be in the Avengers, and maybe even get to meet them. You’d buy a ticket to that, right? Well, that’s what this is.

Ani DiFranco reads “Self Evident” at the 92nd St. Y.
I heard her read this at Carnegie Hall not long after 9/11 [listen]. It was powerful and urgent. It’s still powerful, but it’s different to hear her read it now. The distance is clear. The delivery is subdued, refined and slightly resigned.

In a night that will mix political talk and comedy, the line-up also includes Abby Huntsman, former Senator Evan Bayh, Touré, Time’s Joe Klein, former RNC chairman Michael Steele, Jonathan Krohn, Scott Blakeman, Connor Ratliff, Molly Knefel, Michael Che, The PIT’s Political Subversities, and host Ben Smith of BuzzFeed. Since “Are you now or have you ever been a camper at a Jewish summer camp?” is set to become a standard question in right-wing vetting, let me admit that this too is a part of my dark past. Though I didn’t attend Kinderland, a fount of “unabashed Jewish leftism” described in the ALG report, I did go to day camp at my local Jewish Community Center.

Connor Ratliff for President: He’s Old Enough!
Connor Ratliff, member of Upright Citizens Brigade improv team The Stepfathers, is running for President. What makes him qualified? In his words, “I’m 36 and that’s old enough to be President.” He’s been traversing the Isle of Manhattan to make his case, from a press conference in Battery Park to General Grant National Memorial (Grant’s Tomb), featured here in a video for 92nd Street Y’s Campaign for the American Conversation. His story serves as a reminder that we are living the Constitution every day, as the Founding Fathers intended. Drunk and hot.
