In honor of our 140th anniversary on March 22, here’s our oldest recorded document: the minutes from our first meeting! On March 22, 1874, Dr. Simeon Newton Leo hosted the first meeting of the Young Men’s Hebrew Association (which would later become the 92nd Street Y) at his home at 320 W 33 St. How come everyone had such perfect handwriting back then?
#throwbackthursday “Wow, what a bunch of baby vamps!”
That’s the 20s-era slang used to describe these attractive young showgirls, the kind of thing a couple of lalapazazas might say at a beat session during the time period of our next Lyrics & Lyricists show, "Sweepin’ The Clouds Away: Boom, Bust, and High Spirits,” Feb 22 - 24.
OMG, dude (Di Mi, sheik), will your future grandchildren understand today’s slang? Banana oil!
